Eli Manning was able to find wide receiver Rueben Randle for a 27-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter of the New York Giants‘ game against the undefeated Carolina Panthers.
Manning successfully ran a play-action fake that caught the usually stout Panthers’ defense off guard. Randle was wide-open on the left side of the field due to busted coverage by the Panther’s secondary. He easily ran into the end zone for a 27-yard score. New York would tie up the game with a successful point after attempt at seven points apiece.
Carolina has a realistic chance of remaining undefeated during the 2015 regular season. However, with the Giants still very much alive in the NFC East race, this could stand as the game Carolina is most likely to drop on their quest to perfection. Atlanta and Tampa Bay aren’t fighting for playoff spots in the manner that New York is down the stretch.
What Carolina cannot continue to do is to leave talented wide receivers like Randle wide open by well over 10 yards if the Panthers want to remain undefeated. Manning is too good of a passer to have that much room to deliver the pass. Though the pass was from just outside of the red zone, that busted coverage would have probably allowed Randle to score from anywhere on the gridiron.
