Round 1: Leonard Floyd, OLB – Georgia

Outside linebacker Chad Greenway is likely hanging up his cleats and retiring following the 2015 season, leaving a big hole at linebacker. In addition to the needing to fill a starting role, depth at linebacker is a big issue for the Minnesota Vikings, who could be making multiple selections at the position during the 2016 NFL Draft.

Floyd has the size and power to join Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks to form one of the most athletic and dynamic group of linebackers in the NFL. At 6’3″ and 232 pounds, he’s a sure tackler, but is still a bit raw and needs to add a little bulk to play at the professional level. Luckily, the Minnesota Vikings have shown great ability in developing young linebackers under head coach Mike Zimmer.

While there are other needs for Minnesota, I feel there is a significant drop off in the quality of linebackers is greater than most of the other positions, and Floyd’s athleticism is a great pairing with what the Vikings are trying to accomplish in their defense.
