The Dallas Maverick and Chicago Bulls thought they were going to play basketball, but Mother Nature had other plans.

Sometimes sports has to take a backseat to Mother Nature. The Saints weren’t able to play home games in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, the New Orlean Hornets had to move elsewhere as well and numerous games along the east coast have been postponed at times due to weather.

Ditto for Dallas. The Mavericks and Bulls were supposed to play a game at 8pm ET on Saturday night.

Instead, the game was delayed an hour due to the threat of a tornado in the Dallas area.

It’s rare to have a tornado strike downtown Dallas, and the Mavericks probably would have been fine playing the game. But with the threat of severe weather in the area and tens of thousands of fans traveling in said weather, that’s where the problem is created.

We don’t always see games delayed like this, but sometimes it’s necessary. Usually it’s baseball games that are delayed due to rain, but everything from snowstorms to wildfires have moved the start times of games in the past, and the Mavericks are very much in the right to move their game for the safety of fans.
