RB- DeMarco Murray

Maybe Chip Kelly should have listened more to his inner George Costanza this season. Whatever you think you should do, do the opposite.

This was the first time Chip Kelly had real control over personnel decisions this off-season and decided to trade LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills and then throw a Brinks truck worth of money at Murray. Kelly envisioned him and his former college QB, Sam Bradford, running his quick offense. Neither move worked out.

Murray got a five year deal worth $40 million. If the Eagles elect to keep Murray, he’ll cost them $8 million. If they trade him, Murray would still cost the Eagles $4 million. If they were to trade Murray, Murray’s salary would be $7.5 million over the next three seasons. Maybe if Murray would re-negotiate, he would be more attractive to another team.

One thing is clear though. A power runner in this spread scheme of Chip Kelly just doesn’t work.

Murray has just 633 yards this year and five touchdowns after leading the NFL in rushing with the Dallas Cowboys just last season. Murray is getting less playing time than Ryan Matthews and Darren Sproles at this point.

With a ton of questions facing the Philadelphia Eagles this coming season, maybe trying to get rid of Murray will be beneficial for both parties. For the Eagles, maybe they can get a late round pick. For Murray, it would put him in a better scheme and offensive situation for his talents.
