After winning Eastern Conference Player of the Week, Wizards center Marcin Gortat had a nice surprise when he woke up.

Marcin Gortat had quite the week for the Washington Wizards. The Wizards’ center posted numbers of 21.3 points per game, 11.7 rebounds per game and 1.7 blocks per game. The Wizards finished the week with a 3-0 record.

With Gortat’s phenomenal play at center, he earned the award for Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Unfortunately for Gortat, he was asleep when the award was announced and woke up to a nice surprise.

Gortat had received so many text messages from people after winning the award that he had not yet known that he won, that it caused him to think that he had been traded.

"Omg!! When i woke up and I checked my phone I had about 20 messages!! I though I was traded"

It’s a common reaction in sports when a player is traded, that everyone will blow up that player’s phone with messages of support and congratulations. It’s easy to see why Gortat, who has been traded multiple times in his career, thought he had been traded yet again.

The good news is that he hasn’t been traded and is still very much the future at center for the Wizards. Even better is the fact that he is being recognized for his great play in the past week.

Gortat is trying to make a push to make the All-Star team in the Eastern Conference, which isn’t going to be easy with how competitive the conference has been this season. Achieving things like Eastern Conference Player of the Week, make the path a little bit easier.
