Did DeMarco Murray get Chip Kelly fired?
By Ian O'Brien
If DeMarco Murray is to be believed, the Eagles had valid reasons to fire Chip Kelly.
The Philadelphia Eagles abruptly fired Chip Kelly as their head coach, and running back DeMarco Murray’s underachieving was one of many factors that led to his demise. Murray has not even come close to matching the success that he experienced in his final season with the Dallas Cowboys. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport recently revealed the running back’s true feelings on his new head coach.
If this report is to be believed, Kelly clearly lost the support of his locker room. After a preseason filled with high expectations, the Eagles have limped to a 6-9 record. They failed to win the NFC East even with weak competition. The Eagles underwent an extreme makeover this offseason due to outlandish decisions by Kelly, who also acted as the team’s general manager.
The trade of LeSean McCoy led to the Eagles signing Murray and Ryan Mathews. Neither of them have matched McCoy’s Pro Bowl production. Kelly’s ability as a head coach can certainly be questioned due to the offense’s lack of production and his players not supporting him. It remains to be seen whether the Eagles can return to being a contender and find a coach that the players will rally around. Kelly may be headed back to college if enough NFL teams are turned off by Murray’s alleged comments.
