LSU and Texas Tech faced off in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl on Tuesday looking to finish the 2015 season off strongly.

Heading into this game, the Texas Tech Red Raiders knew they’d have a tough time trying to stop LSU‘s Leonard Fournette. In the first few minutes of the game, Fournette proved that he’s one of the top running backs in the country.

Texas Tech had a solid season, but fell short of high expectations of eight-plus wins. The talent is in place to have a good run in the Big 12 for years. The Red Raiders looked to be solid competition for the once-mighty LSU Tigers on Tuesday night, playing a close game throughout.

Fournette looked the part despite not getting a ton of carries and Patrick Mahomes looked good for Texas Tech. This wasn’t exactly a shootout for both teams, but they provided some excitement for fans craving elite football on December 29.

Three Stars

Leonard Fournette was his normal self, rushing for 212 yards and four scores while adding a 44-yard touchdown catch for his fifth goal-line cross of the day.

Patrick Mahomes was rushed an awful lot, finishing with negative rushing yards, but he passed for 375 yards and four touchdowns.

Brandon Harris did it with his legs and his arm, passing for 254 yards and a touchdown while adding a 26-yard scoring run.

Here’s a bonus, fourth star: Jakeem Grant. The wide out was a juking machine and really opened some eyes on the national stage against a solid LSU team, catching 10 passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns.

Betting Odds

LSU opened as a six-point favorite in this one and the over/under was set at 60.5 points. Somewhat surprisingly, the 60 points was surpassed early and the Tigers covered the six-point spread.

2016 Openers

The LSU Tigers will open the 2016 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay against the Wisconsin Badgers. Supremacy between the Big Ten and SEC will be battled for on Sept. 3.

Texas Tech plays a far more inferior opponent than does LSU to open the 2016 season, hosting Stephen F. Austin in week one.
