Mike Pettine wants Browns to fire his staff instead of him

Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine is offering up his coaching staff as a sacrificial lamb in order to save his job.

When the Cleveland Browns fired their last head coach after just one season, everyone expected them to find the right guy the next time around. That was our fault for assuming the Browns knew how to do anything right, despite the fact that Mike Pettine has shown some flashes as head coach.

That being said, the Browns aren’t going anywhere anytime soon despite a slightly more talented roster than they might deserve — which means another head coaching change might be in store. The drama surrounding Johnny Manziel and the flame out after a decent start has all the trademarks of a situation where ownership would make a change at the top.

Petting can see the writing on the wall and is already offering up his coaching staff in order to save his job.

While he didn’t actively campaign for his staff to be fired, he also wasn’t shy about saying about as much.

"“I’m not going to get into that,” he replied. “Those discussions will remain between Jimmy and I. Will there likely be some changes? If I was to stay here, it would be hard to justify keeping the staff completely together, and there likely would have to be some changes made. But I won’t get into specifics.”"

In all likelihood, Pettine won’t get that far. The Browns not only are a rancid dumpster fire of mediocrity under Pettine but Hallam has the tendency to fire coaches because he feels like it. Ask Rob Chudzinski how his tenure went — ending in slight promise but total unemployment.
