One of the cool things about college football is the outrageous play cards that teams have. They can feature the oddest images, from an Apple logo all the way to a picture of tennis shoes.
Against the Tennessee Volunteers in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day, the Northwestern Wildcats used a play card that featured some of their most famous sports-related alumni.
While Northwestern was struggling to put up points against Tennessee, they held up a card that featured Mike Wilbon, Rachel Nichols and Darren Rovell, all of whom graduated from Northwestern University.

The card also featured the Chicago Bulls logo, so Northwestern was keeping it local with the shoutout to the Windy City. It just goes to show that college teams are becoming more and more creative with the way that they design their play cards.
Even if it doesn’t always work out, which Northwestern learned the hard way against Tennessee, disguising play calls with a card is a perfect way to keep other teams from trying to steal signs on the field.
Perhaps the Wildcats were trying to run the journalist sweep.
