Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson has promised to play against Alabama, after he was injured against Oklahoma.
The Clemson Tigers flexed their muscles in the Orange Bowl on Thursday, and proved to any doubters that they are ready to compete for it all against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Glendale, Arizona.
Although the Tigers came away with the big win in the Orange Bowl against the Oklahoma Sooners, there was some concern about the health status of defensive end Shaq Lawson.
Lawson suffered a knee injury on the opening drive of the game. He came back to give it a go and recorded a sack, but he never saw the field again after that.
Despite all of the concern about his knee, Lawson has promised to play in the National Championship Game against Alabama, according to the Post and Courier.
"“I feel great. Just hurt my knee a little bit,” Lawson said. “Nothing too serious. I’ll be ready for the championship.”Lawson, who has 10½ sacks this season, is expected to have an MRI soon to determine the severity of the injury.Lawson didn’t seem concerned, saying “I’ll be back. I’ll be back. I’ll be back.”"
Lawson is by far and away the best defender for Clemson. Every single play, he sets the tone defensively for the Tigers. With him on the field, Clemson plays with a level of swagger and physicality that is unlike anything else.
With everything on the line against the Crimson Tide, Lawson knows what is at stake and that this opportunity might never come again for the All-American defensive end.
The Crimson Tide put together an impressive showing in the Cotton Bowl, and despite Clemson doing a great job in the Orange Bowl, many see the Crimson Tide as the favorites. Clemson will have to take on the role of the underdog one more time and no one gets the team more fired up than Lawson.
The good news is that he is determined to play, which is better news for Clemson.
