The Stanford Cardinal faked a fumble and scored on a wide-open touchdown pass.
The Stanford Cardinal simply embarrassed the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Rose Bowl.
Through big plays on offense and defense, the Cardinal jumped all over the Hawkeyes early. Up 28-0 in the second quarter, the Cardinal pulled off a trick play so crazy it has to be seen to be believed.
After picking up a big fourth-down conversion, Stanford brought Christian McCaffrey in the game and had Iowa thinking they were going to run. That’s when the Cardinal had the Hawkeyes frozen with a fake fumble.
Quarterback Kevin Hogan set the ball down on the ground and faked a fumble, which made the Hawkeyes freeze and leave Michael Rector open for a 31-yard touchdown.
.@khoagie8 picks up what he's putting down! It's getting weird in the #RoseBowl now on ESPN!https://t.co/tZGcUVMiNt

It was a completely legal play by Stanford and the Hawkeyes were never even expecting a fake fumble. Stanford coach David Shaw really flexed his coaching genius with a call like that and it’s that type of play-calling that makes everyone remember why he’s won multiple Pac-12 Coach of the Year awards.
The Hawkeyes are doing anything they can to get something going, but Stanford keeps answering with big plays to catch their opponent off guard.
