FanDuel DFS Fantasy hockey picks Jan. 2
Defensemen
High Salary D
- Dustin Byfuglien – Winnipeg Jets ($7,700): Byfuglien has been a bright spot on an otherwise disappointing season for the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets are likely going to trade him at the trade deadline. I wouldn’t be surprised if they wisely choose to show him off by giving him more favorable matchups in an attempt to make him look better so that they can get a larger return for him. That sounds like something the Jets would do. He’s going against the Sharks this evening. He averages 3.4 fantasy hockey points per game.
- John Klingberg – Dallas Stars ($6,100): Klingberg has just three points in his last ten games. I like him tonight going against the Devils. After going three straight games without a shot on goal, he has nine in his last three games. He also has two assists in his last three games. He averages 3.3 fantasy hockey points per game.
- Kevin Shattenkirk – St. Louis Blues ($6,200): Shattenkirk has once again been a very important part of the Blues offense with 24 points in 30 games. He has eight points in his last ten games and has scored a goal in each of his last two games. He’s going against the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight and their goaltending has stunk recently without James Reimer. He averages 2.9 fantasy hockey points per game.
High Value D
- Oliver Ekman-Larsson – Arizona Coyotes ($5,800): Larsson has finally started getting noticed by NHL fans after going unnoticed because he plays in Arizona. He’s a great value in FanDuel. He’s going against the Oilers tonight (third-most goals allowed with 119). He averages three fantasy hockey points per game. He has two multi-point games in his last four games and has a two-game point streak.
- Shayne Gostisbehere – Philadelphia Flyers ($3,800): It amazes me that FanDuel hasn’t done a price correction on the NHL’s most impressive rookie defenseman. Gostisbehere has been a miracle for the Flyers and their depleted blue line with 14 points in 20 games. Even against the Kings and after a tough learning experience against the San Jose Sharks, he’s worth a start because that salary is so low and he’ll give you fantasy hockey points. He averages 2.9 fantasy hockey points per game.
Also consider Ryan Suter of the Minnesota Wild.
DAILY PICKS: I advise going with two of the following: Shattenkirk, Gostsibehere, Larsson, Suter. All depends on how much you want to spend on forwards.
