Josh Freeman expected to start for Colts in Week 17
Josh Freeman is expected to start for the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
It has been a season of consistent letdowns for the Indianapolis Colts, so much so, that Chuck Pagano is far from safe in his job with rumors flying around left right and center. Among many of the issues that the side has faced has been the standard of play at the quarterback position. Andrew Luck is set to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of his generation, but a combination of poor form and injuries has severely diminished his play this season.
In his stead, Matt Hasselback has performed admirably. However, the 40-year-old’s body can only last so long in the hard-hitting, physically demanding world of pro football, and Week 17 is a week too far for the veteran. The next man up would have been one Charlie Whitehurst, but he was placed on IR during the Christmas period. This led to a quarterback battle between Josh Freeman, who was signed just last week, Ryan Lindley and Stephen Morris.
Well, it now looks as though Freeman has won the battle to be back up quarterback. The Colts face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 17 with an outside shot of the divisional title and the playoffs, though it is nearly impossible. Much more than a playoff berth, however, is a win could well save Pagano his job, by rescuing the season at 8-8. It will be Josh Freeman who Pagano is depending upon.
