Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane is set to become their new manager after sacking Rafa Benitez earlier on Monday.

Zinedine Zidane is one of the greatest players to grace the face of Earth. After mesmerizing all football fans for over a decade, Zidane will now ply his trade as a manager, and what a job to start with. Real Madrid is one of the biggest, most successful clubs in world football, and while Zidane made his name as a Galactico, playing the game is very different to managing. It will be fascinating to see how the great man performs in his new role.

Rafa Benitez was sacked earlier on Monday after a draw to Gary Neville’s Valencia, leaving Real four points off top position in La Liga, but crucially, two points behind Barcelona with the Catalan club having a game in hand.  A particular disappointment was the 4-0 demolition at the hands of their great rivals, Barcelona. Losing any El Classico is an issue for a Real manager. Losing an El Classico in such an embarrassing manner was always going to be a significant hurdle to overcome.

Benitez is now gone, and Real fans are rejoicing at his departure. The new man in charge is Zidane, and he will have quite a task on his hand. Nothing short of winning the league will be deemed acceptable, even with Zidane’s legendary status with the club. The Frenchman has been the coach of Real’s second team, Castilla, and has performed well. However, he is now to be chucked in the deep end with the big boys. This is going to be exciting to watch.
