If we based the NFL playoffs solely off of jersey sales throughout the season, who would be the winner?

This sponsored post is brought to you by DICK’S Sporting Goods.

We’ve now entered one of the most exciting times of the year as the NFL playoffs for the 2015 season are about to start. Beginning on Saturday, some of the best teams in football will begin their journey, a journey which they all hope will land them a spot in Super Bowl 50, which this year will take place in Santa Clara, California inside Levi’s Stadium. From there, it will be time to decide the Super Bowl winner, arguably the most coveted prize in all of American sports.

Of course, the winner of Super Bowl 50 will be decided on the field, but what if we were to decide this year’s champion of the NFL another way, just for fun? You know, like maybe taking the playoff teams, throwing them into a bracket and advancing them based solely off of their jersey sales.

Well, this is something that has been done.

Thanks to the fine folks at DICK’S Sporting Goods, who report on jersey sales both nationwide and online, we have this lovely bracket that shows how this year’s NFL Playoff field would pan out if we were talking just about jersey sales for the season alone.

Really, the outcome here is no surprise. On the one hand, you have the New England Patriots with such popular stars as Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman and others, who have some pretty consistent jersey sales. Then you have the Carolina Panthers, who just got finished going on a 15-1 run through the regular season, and this team is led by one of the most polarizing figures in sports, Cam Newton.

The ironic part of this little experiment is the fact that for the most part, this is probably the Super Bowl match up that most fans want to see in February after the way the regular season played out.
