Pelicans star Anthony Davis injured his back against the Pacers and is questionable to return

The New Orleans Pelicans have been struggling to reach anything close to the level of play they were expected to be at coming into the 2015-16 NBA season. However, there’s no way that would ever happen with any kind of drop off in production by star big man Anthony Davis. However, they might have to for at least a brief span of time as Davis suffered a back injury on Friday night against the Indiana Pacers.

During the first quarter of the matchup, Davis was trying to make a hustle play by the bench by diving for a loose ball. After making the play, he stayed down holding his back before being taken to the locker room:

After being taken to the locker room, the Pelicans sent out an official update on his status, calling the injury a back contusion and saying that he would be questionable to return:

For all of the Pelicans’ struggles and unmet expectations through the first two-and-a-half months of the season, they would be a far worse basketball team if not for Davis’ contributions. For their sake, they have to hope that this is nothing that lingers and that the star forward can get back into the lineup soon enough.
