According to a report, the Detroit Lions have hired Bob Quinn as their new general manager.

After the Detroit Lions fired many front office executives during the middle of the season, Martha Firestone Ford promised to find a new general manager that will lead the team in the right direction and back to the playoffs.

According to Adam Schefter, the Lions will be hiring New England Patriots director of pro scouting Bob Quinn to become their new general manager.

The hiring of Quinn comes as no surprise, as many around the league expected him to finally get his turn as a general manager in this league. With the success of the Patriots on the field and their ability to make key additions to the team in the off-season, Quinn quickly elevated his name as an executive in this league.

Quinn will have plenty of big decisions to make as he steps into his new general manager role with the Lions. The first thing he will have to do is evaluate what to do with the coaching staff and whether or not he wants to keep head coach Jim Caldwell around.

He will also have the Calvin Johnson decision in his lap. If Johnson decides not to retire from the NFL, then Quinn will have to decide whether or not to keep Johnson and his $24 million cap hit.

The Lions won six of their final eight games of the season and showed that they do have the talent on the roster to compete right now. They need more of that talent, but the players are there in place for them to improve.
