Many fans and national media members spent a lot of energy trying to guess Ohio State football player Braxton Miller’s transfer destination this fall, but apparently Miller never thought of it at all.

Ohio State’s Braxton Miller heard all of the rumors and chatter about what school he might leave the Buckeyes to attend. All the while, he was just conducting private workouts with teammates J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones in an effort to make the transition to wide receiver.

Miller claims he never thought about leaving Ohio State despite the fact that he lost his QB spot. Instead, he spent countless hours working to successfully make the transition to wide receiver. That transition ultimately paid off for the Buckeyes in their 12-1 season that saw Miller become a significant factor from his flanker position.

It had to be tough position move for Miller given his success as a quarterback, but let’s not pretend it was all about the good of the team. Miller was smart enough to realize that if he was going to play at the next level, it wouldn’t be as a quarterback. The emergence of other QB options for the Buckeyes gave him a unique opportunity to make his professional position switch before he actually went to the NFL.

Only time will tell if that works out to make him a more productive professional. We’ve seen many spread quarterbacks struggle to find their home in the NFL at various positions. Miller will have a year of practicing and playing his new position under his belt before he tries to make it at the pro level. He should be thankful he didn’t have to choose between the team’s well-being and his own professional future when deciding what position to play his senior year.

Miller may never have considered leaving Ohio State for another school, but he was always thinking about leaving for the NFL.
