DeAngelo Williams injury update: Steelers RB out Saturday vs Bengals in Wild Card Round

The Pittsburgh Steelers will have to go against the Bengals without DeAngelo Williams on Saturday. 

Down the stretch there were few teams better than the Pittsburgh Steelers as they made their march towards a playoff spot. One of the reasons this team was so explosive on the offensive side of the ball was the play of running back DeAngelo Williams in the absence of Le’Veon Bell.

Unfortunately, though, while the Steelers did earn that playoff spot, they’ll have to start their Super Bowl journey without the services of Williams in the backfield. According to Ian Rapoport, Williams is out Saturday as he continues to deal with his foot injury. However, the good news is that if they come out victorious against the Bengals in the Wild Card Round, it looks as if he’ll be available for the Divisional Round against the next opponent.

This is a huge blow to the Steelers, mainly because of the way that Williams has stepped up in the absence of one of the most versatile backs in the league such as Bell. Pittsburgh got Williams as a bargain in free agency for $2 million, and he has indeed proved to be worth every penny.

With Williams on the sidelines for Saturday, that means Fitzgerald Toussaint and Jordan Todman will get the bulk of the rushing duties on the offensive side of the ball.

Now, there is more pressure on the passing offense to step up, so expect a heavy dose of Antonio Brown in this one, one way or another.
