NHL Trade: Rangers trade Emerson Etem to Canucks for Nicklas Jensen and pick
The New York Rangers have traded Emerson Etem to the Vancouver Canucks for a prospect and a draft pick
The New York Rangers hoped that forward Emerson Etem could help replace Carl Hagelin when they insisted that he be involved in the trade at the 2015 NHL Draft that sent Hagelin to the Anaheim Ducks. Etem was never a fit with the Rangers and he struggled to get ice time. The Rangers recently sent him down to the AHL for a conditioning stint as they tried to trade him. They have found a taker in the Vancouver Canucks.
Nicklas Jensen was the Canucks first round pick of the 2011 NHL Draft (29th pick overall). He’s a right wing who has six points in 24 career NHL games. The 22 year old forward was never a great fit for the Canucks so this is a good opportunity for two talented forwards to get a fresh start on their careers. Change could do both Jensen and Emerson Etem a lot of good.
The draft pick has been confirmed and it is for a sixth-round pick.
Etem has just three points in 19 games this season while averaging 14 minutes and 43 seconds of ice time per game. He has played in 112 games in his career and has 31 points. Etem is a 6’1″ 212-pound forward who will likely be a better fit with the Canucks.
The Rangers prefer faster forwards. Jensen is more of a depth forward but still has quite a bit of upside.
