Michigan State. Connor Cook. 7. player. 42.
Don’t believe the hype, Colin Kaepernick is out in San Francisco. His sub-tweeting of the team by congratulating Jim Harbaugh on a bowl victory and successful season proves as much. There are deep wounds here, and those, alongside the money he’s due, mean Kaep is the latest prominent figure to leave the esteemed organization.

There’s no coach in place yet, so this pick can go a lot of ways, but damned if the 49ers don’t need a quarterback. In this spot there are two choices: Conner Cook or Paxton Lynch (San Francisco would’ve loved Jared Goff, but the Cleveland Browns stole their thunder with pick No. 2).

Looking to move far away from the Kaepernick model, San Francisco opts for Cook. Lynch is a hot name, but he is a big bodied quarterback from a small school who has both legs and a cannon arm. Too similar to Kaep.

Cook is a very smart player who knows how to fit into the scheme of his given roster. He’s played the role of game-manager and let Michigan State’s strong defense carry games; he’s also played the stud offensive leader who props up his team and scores tons of points. His completion percentage is a concern, but his ability to take care of the ball and maturity are big plusses.
. QB
