Alabama’s ArDarius Stewart and Kenyan Drake blocked a couple of Clemson players into oblivion

Near the end of the first half of the College Football Playoff National Championship, the Alabama Crimson Tide were simply trying to keep things tied up with the Clemson Tigers going into halftime. They had third-and-long with less than a minute left and the ball went to Calvin Ridley toward the left sideline before he reversed fields and cut it all the way to the other sideline. While the play may not have resulted in anything more than wasting some time on the clock, it did allow Alabama’s ArDarius Stewart and Kenyan Drake to absolutely clean the clocks of a couple of Clemson players.

The Crimson Tide’s blocking as Ridley cut the ball across the field was phenomenal, but was highlighted by Stewart and Drake absolutely pancaking their respective blocks:

Eyes are going to be drawn to Stewart on that play because he’s moving at a higher speed, but Drake’s block is more impressive. He just explodes from a low center of gravity to just level his man and put him flat on his back.

With those blocks and the fact that Ridley ran the entire width of the field on that play, it’s amazing that it wasn’t even good enough for a first down. Still, Stewart and Drake can go into the film room and let everyone know that they can definitely open up space with their blocking.
