3. Rejuvenated rushing attack

Right before Christmas, I wrote about how C.J. Anderson would be one of the most important players down the stretch in determining the Broncos’ playoff fortunes. After missing Week 14 with an ankle injury and playing a limited role against the Steelers in Week 15, Anderson returned with gusto to the starting tailback spot for the final two games of the season, running for a touchdown in each and averaging 7.2 yards per carry over both contests.

His hard-nosed approach is the perfect complement to the more laterally-agile Ronnie Hillman, who actually had a better Week 17 than Anderson with 15 carries for 117 yards, a touchdown, and a 7.8 rushing yard average against the Chargers. Hillman is also a fairly reliable option as a pass-catcher coming out of the backfield when he needs to be.

Overall, the Broncos have a nice 1-2 punch at running back. Both players have had their share of ups and downs this season, but their strong showings of late should inspire confidence that Denver can run the ball when they need to heading into the postseason.
