Ed Dickson will try his best to replace the outstanding productivity of Cam Newton’s favorite target Greg Olsen.

The Carolina Panthers have absolutely dominated the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Divisional game, but Cam Newton could be in serious trouble without his favorite target. Greg Olsen left the game early in the fourth quarter with an apparent shoulder injury, after he fought for extra yardage to try to get a first down.

Olsen has been Newton’s favorite target all season long and is one of the best receiving tight ends in all of football. Olsen looked to be in a considerable amount of pain after injuring his shoulder, which means he’ll be a case to monitor for Panthers fans across the globe.

Olsen’s backup is former Baltimore Ravens tight end Ed Dickson. Dickson is 6-4 and weighs 244 pounds. Moreover, he has the athletic ability to be a play-maker for the Panthers if put in the right scheme and situation. Dickson has grabbed two touchdowns and totaled 127 receiving yards on 17 receptions in relief of Olsen this season. Dickson’s best season came in 2011 when he totaled 528 receiving yards on 54 receptions with the Ravens.

Dickson will not be able to replace Olsen’s productivity, but he will have to be a steady-handed receiver that Newton can rely on in short-yardage situations.
