The Atlanta Hawks create an awe-inspiring tribute to the Civil Rights leader who called the city home.

While many Americans have Martin Luther King Day off, the NBA uses the holiday to pay tribute to the important leader who did more than anyone to further the cause of Civil Rights in the United States. The Atlanta Hawks, however, are especially passionate about acknowledging his extraordinary legacy, because he was a native Atlantan.

The organization played this tribute to him prior to their Monday night game against the Orlando Magic.

This incredible tribute created the illusion of three dimensional shapes and images relating to Dr. King appearing on the court, while clips from his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech filled the entire arena with the beautiful words that defined the Civil Rights movement.

MLK fought the systemic racism that plagued the United States and the segregation that defined the American South. He was part of many seminal moments in the Civil Rights movement, including the March on Washington and Selma to Montgomery marches. His contribution can never be understated and his mark will forever be imprinted on the city of Atlanta and the entire United States of America.

This video wasn’t the only thing special about the game; a gospel choir did the Hawks players’ introductions. The Hawks must have been inspired by the pre-game tributes, as they earned a 98-81 victory over the Orlando Magic. Atlanta stands at fourth in the Eastern Conference standings with a 25-17 record. They play the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, January 20.
