The SEC has fined Auburn for storming the court after their impressive victory against Kentucky.

On Saturday, the Auburn Tigers pulled off an upset win against the John Calipari-led Kentucky Wildcats. The Tigers were only 7-8 coming into Saturday’s game, and their fans responded accordingly to the victory by storming the court. This show of elation, however, will cost the university a pretty penny.

For the act, the SEC has fined the institution $100,000.

While Auburn likely saw this fine coming after the storming occurred, the victory could very well reenergize the fanbase, and perhaps even the team. While the Tigers came into the game with a losing record, the Wildcats were sitting at 13-3. Although they have suffered disappointing losses this season, Kentucky has been consistently strong during Calipari’s tenure, which began in 2009. They won a national championship in 2012 and are coming off of an undefeated 2014-2015 regular season which led them to a Final Four appearance.

Despite their upset losses and the sometimes underwhelming play from five-star freshman Skal Labissiere, Kentucky was still projected to win by double digits, and in the second half the Wildcats led by 12. But they ultimately let the game get away from them.

Auburn stormed back behind 26 points from Kareem Canty, 21 from Tyler Harris and 5 blocks from Horace Spencer.

In front of a crowd of 9,121

, the Tigers had the second half they needed to mount the comeback and complete the upset. The Tigers also broke a 15-game losing streak to top 25 opponents.

A screaming crowd that had risen to its feet during the second half poured onto the court after the 75-70 victory was completed. And While Auburn would probably rather not pay the $100,000 fine, they will take the victory, pay the fine, and hope that Saturday night will provide the spark that the Tigers needed to finish the season strong.
