Giuseppe Rossi joins Levante on loan
Fiorentina have officially sent striker, Giuseppe Rossi, to Levante on loan.
Giuseppe Rossi did not make many friends in the United States after he decided to turn down the USMNT to play for the Italian national team. The 28-year-old was born in New Jersey, but opted to play for the country where his parents were born instead.
However, Rossi has had a career riddled with injuries and hasn’t been able to make the impact in Europe playing internationally or domestically that he had been hoping for. Although he has spent time with the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle United, Parma, Villarreal, and Fiorentina, he has had to deal with a plethora of injuries everywhere he has gone.
On Friday, it was confirmed that the Italian international will be sent to Spain’s La Liga on a loan stint with Levante. Playing time had become increasingly difficult for the striker to find with Fiorentina, so both the club and player agreed that a lone move would be the best option for all parties.
Rossi is desperately trying to earn a spot on the Azzurri squad traveling to France for Euro 2016 this summer, but the team’s head coach, Antonio Conte, made it clear that everyone he selects must be playing regular soccer for their club team.
Levante could certainly use all the help they can get, fighting a dogfight of a relegation battle. Currently, they sit dead last in Spain’s top flight, with just 14 points from 20 matches. They are just three points away from safety though, and acquiring Rossi could be just the team needed,
Rossi spent five seasons in Spain with Villarreal, making 136 appearances and scoring 56 goals during that time.
