4. David Blatt

David Blatt had a lot of success with LeBron James. However, as far as his coaching abilities, he wasn’t that great. LeBron and Blatt never got along. Who’s to blame for that? Probably both sides. However, if a franchise superstar and a head coach don’t like each other, it’s far easier to find a new head coach than it is to find another franchise superstar. Blatt’s inability to get along with LeBron made him a less effective coach.

Blatt had a ton of talent to work with while coaching LeBron James. He also had two excellent players in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. Blatt was unable to make the trio work. Love is currently viewed as possible trade bait for the Cavaliers and a lot of that has to do with Blatt’s inability to utilize him efficiently.

Blatt took the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals during the 2014-2015 season and deserves credit for that. However, the Eastern Conference was especially weak that season and he lost to the Golden State Warriors. Not only that, but Steve Kerr significantly out-coached Blatt during that series.

The Cavaliers will be better off without Blatt even though he took them to the Finals. Lue should be able to help the Cavaliers win the title that Blatt could never win (even if it was just in one season).
