Blake Griffin’s hand injury is the result of him hitting a member of the Clippers equipment staff

The Los Angeles Clippers reported late on Monday night that star power forward Blake Griffin would not be traveling on the team’s latest road trip. However, the reason wasn’t because of the quad injury that his kept him out for several weeks, but rather because of a new, relatively mysterious hand injury. Reports are now indicating that the reason for the hand injury is probably why the Clippers were trying to keep it under the radar.

According to a report from ESPN’s Michael Eaves, Blake Griffin suffered the injury to his hand after getting into an argument with a member of the Clippers’ equipment staff and subsequently hitting said employee:

You never want NBA players putting on members of the coaching or training staff, but having one of your star players do so is another, much bigger problem entirely.

Griffin has really come into his own as a player in the past few seasons and, while we’ve seen his anger come out on the court in the heat of the game, this is the first incident of note where it’s spilled over off of the court—and it’s far from pretty.

Blake has already been out for quite some time with the previously mentioned quad injury, but this is going to look far worse and, if past incidents of a similar nature are any indication, Griffin will likely miss more time than just the injury causes as the NBA will almost surely levy out a suspension.
