LeBron James had way more trouble throwing down a dunk on a fast break than he should have

The Cleveland Cavaliers have pretty much dominated news headlines around the NBA that haven’t concerned Blake Griffin breaking his hand. At the center of all the Cleveland storylines, though, the name of Cavs superstar LeBron James seems to pop up. Whether the rumblings regarding LeBron are true or not, you have to wonder if they are affecting his play on the court—especially when he’s messing up as badly as he did in the third quarter against the Detroit Pistons on Friday night.

With the Cavs maintaining the lead they had on the Pistons for most of the night, James got loose on a fast break and looked as if he was going to throw down one of his patented one-handed tomahawk jams. He certainly tried to do that, but the rim had other plans:

You can probably count the times in the NBA that this has happened to LeBron on one hand. For all of the shortcomings that have come to light regarding James at various points throughout his career, missing wide-open dunks has never really been one of them.

Perhaps this was just an anomaly, but there is undoubtedly a strange vibe in Cleveland and plays like this certainly don’t do anything to help fix that for the Cavs.
