P.K. Subban of the Canadiens is trying to recruit Kobe Bryant to be his new mentor

Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban is quickly becoming one of the NHL’s most marketable stars, sot’s only fitting that he would gravitate towards one of the NBA’s most marketable stars of all-time in Kobe Bryant.

Subban went to a Lakers-Celtics game while he was in Boston for the 2016 Winter Classic and the two got to chat after the game.

“I’ve admired Kobe for a long time,” Subban said, via TSN. “I don’t think there’s a bigger competitor in all of sports. He would be a great mentor.”

P.K. Subban and Bryant have set up a meeting to chat with Subban flying out to California at some point so that they can talk further and get to know each other.

This is a relationship that could greatly benefit Subban. As incredible of a talent as Subban is, he has trouble staying focused at times because it’s quite hard for him to stay out of the spotlight since Montreal is such a huge NHL market. The stress of playing for the Montreal Canadiens is something that few people could understand, but Bryant can definitely relate to Subban there because he has played his entire career in Los Angeles.

Bryant also had the competitive drive to stay focused on always improving his game, but Subban has struggled in that regard. Subban does have one thing going for him — he sure knows how to market himself. Subban has embraced being the face of the Canadiens and is involved in multiple charities.
