NBA Rumors: Suns want to hire Steve Nash as head coach
By Josh Hill
The Phoenix Suns are reportedly hot to hire Steve Nash as their next head coach.
It was a long time coming, but the Phoenix Suns finally fired head coach Jeff Hornacek on Monday. The writing was on the wall for a while now, but with Hornacek officially gone the hunt for the next Suns head coach has officially begun.
One surprising name that has popped up is former Suns legend Steve Nash.
According to Marc Stein from ESPN, the Suns have strong interest in hiring Steve Nash to replace the recently fired Jeff Hornacek.
The issue holding this dream reunion of the Suns and Nash up seems to be the latter’s disinterest in returning to the NBA in any capacity so soon after retiring.
That’s more than fair for Nash to want to hold off on taking an NBA gig when one of the reasons he hung it up last year was so that he could spend more time with his family. That’s not to say he won’t return to the NBA in the future, but it seems a little too soon for Nash to jump back into the NBA pool.
If Derek Fisher can get a job and do decent with it, then it’s not hard to see Nash being able to do the same thing. Nash was a better player and both have leadership skills that clearly transition well into head coaching leadership. Nash might not be coaching the Suns in the future, but this whole report at the very least broaches the subject of Nash being a head coach at some point down the road.
