The Texas Longhorns need to land these five recruits on National Signing Day

The Texas Longhorns haven’t seen the former glory that they once enjoyed on the gridiron in quite some time. The first two seasons under head coach Charlie Strong have resulted in sub-.500 records, but the Longhorns will be hoping that Texas football can start to be brought back to prominence with a strong 2016 recruiting class on National Signing Day.

Coming into National Signing Day, though, the Longhorns aren’t in a particularly great position. Scout.com has their recruiting class ranked at only No. 26 in the nation heading. Even more problematic, though, is their severe lack of offense throughout the current list of commits.

Even with the commitment of four-star athlete Lil’Jordan Humphrey on Saturday, Texas football still only has only six four-star offensive players currently committed to come to play for the Longhorns in 2016. Even more curious, though, is that their top recruits still left to be signed almost all fall on the defensive side of the ball.

While that certainly means that the Longhorns can’t miss on any high-end offensive recruits, it also put a premium on the defensive players at the top of their recruiting wish list. Sure, Texas could use a great deal of help on offense, but if their defense suffers as well with this incoming class of recruits, the situation will only worsen.

With all of that in mind, these are the five recruits Texas football must land.
