Five teams that should trade for Dustin Byfuglien
By David Rouben
4: Dallas Stars
Just like the Panthers, the Stars have been one of the league’s best teams. But unlike Florida, this was expected. They trail the Blackhawks for first in the division by three points but have three games in hand, so there’s plenty of time to catch up. However, they are likely to meet in the second round of the playoffs and the Stars will want to be as geared up as possible for that potential heavyweight clash.
Obviously Benn and Seguin are the biggest reason for Dallas’ success this season, but they’ve had good success on defense as well. John Klingberg looks like a Norris candidate as he’s rocketed his way up to third in team scoring with a remarkable seven goals and 35 assists. Adding another right-handed shot will dramatically increase the team’s depth on defense, and Byfuglien and Oduya would make a great pairing.
To get him, the Stars would potentially need to give up their first round pick and Valeri Nichushkin – he’s in the last year of his entry deal and a formidable prospect, but he’s buried on the fourth line as a result of the Stars’ offensive depth.
Jason Demers could also be thrown in to the mix to help balance out the books and because Byfuglien would take his spot immediately. However, that’s a steep price to pay for a rental.
