Commissioner Roger Goodell actually proposed a good system to help clean up the league.

For every mistake Roger Goodell has made in the past, and for the amount of criticism he’s received (and rightly so) he actually put forward a system that could actually be a positive change for the NFL. He proposed to Play 60 kids, no less, that if a player commits two personal fouls, it should result in ejection.

This is a system that is, in essence, almost identical to soccer’s card system. Not every foul results in a yellow card, and some could result in a straight sending off, but in most cases two fouls to the same player results in ejection. In a game like football that can result in so many life-threatening injuries, this could help prevent some from actually occurring.

Everyone remembers the numerous back-and-forth incidents between Odell Beckham and Josh Norman. As the wide receiver’s nerves escalated, many called for Beckham to be ejected from the game. It reached a peak after he laid out a helmet-to-helmet hit on the cornerback.

If this rule change were to take shape, it could drastically improve player safety. This is just the first stage of the proposal, so further measures should be taken to make it better – for example, a hit to the head results in an automatic ejection. As for now, this is a sign of positive development for Goodell and the NFL.
