Super Bowl 50: Graham Gano hits upright (Video)
Graham Gano missed a field goal in the third quarter of Super Bowl 50, keeping the Carolina Panthers six points behind the Denver Broncos.
The Panthers are trailing by six points in the third quarter of Super Bowl 50, but they got the ball first and had a nice drive going. However, the march would stall inside Denver territory and on fourth down, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera sent out kicker Graham Gano for a 44-yard field goal. The kick would be no good, hitting the right upright.
As noted in the tweet, it appeared that Denver cornerback Aqib Talib was offsides, something that would have given Gano another shot. However, there was no call on Talib, and the Broncos were able to get the ball up six points in the third quarter.
For Carolina, this would be a devastating defeat. The Panthers rolled to a 14-0 start and ended the season at 15-1 before hammering both the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals in the NFC playoffs. Rivera’s team was favored in the game, in most places having to lay 4.5 or 5.5 points.
Should Denver win, there is a good chance that Peyton Manning leaves the league with his second Super Bowl title.
