When does the 2016 NFL regular season start?

Super Bowl 50 will be over on Sunday night, leaving football fans around the world with a massive void. For the next seven months, there will be no on-field action except for the occasional minicamp and subsequent training camp and preseason games. Of course, none of that really gets the blood pumping like a regular-season or playoff game.

Unfortunately for all of us, the 2016 NFL regular season does not start until Sept. 8, which will be the opening Thursday night. It won’t be until Sept. 11 where we get a full slate of Sunday games, followed by the Monday Night Football doubleheader on Sept. 12. It remains to be seen who will be playing in the first game, with either the Carolina Panthers or Denver Broncos hosting the opener.

The season has always started in September, except in 1997 when the campaign actually started on August 31. Frankly, it is amazing that somebody did not pass out on the field form heat stroke down in Florida or Texas. The regular season will also end in December this time around, as opposed to the beginning of January like it was this season.

The 2016 NFL regular season needs to get here … now.
