Blake Griffin trade rumors: 5 trade possible destinations
By John Buhler
With the way that Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge has stockpiled assets since blowing up the Big Three/Four (Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Rajon Rondo) a few years ago, Boston can and will be able to offer more than any team in the NBA with regards to an NBA trade deadline deal this season.
Boston owns the rights to swap first round picks with the awful Brooklyn Nets in the 2016 NBA Draft. This pick is an unprotected one and who wouldn’t want to have a legitimate shot at winning the NBA Draft Lottery by pulling off a trade with the Celtics to the Nets’ continued misfortune?
Though Boston is playing fantastically of late, as the entered Monday night in third place in the Eastern Conference with a 31-22 record, one has to believe that Ainge will make a deal to get head coach Brad Stevens a star player so that Boston can factor in the Eastern Conference Playoffs this spring.
One player that could help them come playoff time and for several seasons is Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin. Should Griffin have his health in April, nobody will want to play the Celtics with him on the roster in the first round, regardless of where the Celtics finish in the East.
Of all the positions that Boston would probably look towards acquiring a star player, it would be at the power forward position. Ainge and Stevens will want a four that at times can win games with a jump shot, just as well as he can with his back to the basket in the low post.
Griffin would look pretty good in Celtic green for the foreseeable future if Ainge and former Celtics head coach and Clippers head coach/general manager Doc Rivers can figure out a way to send Griffin to Boston for an abundance of assets in return, including that Nets pick swap.
