Would either team be willing to do it, but perhaps the most intriguing deal involving the Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin would be to send him home to his native Oklahoma City to play for the Oklahoma City Thunder for superstar small forward Kevin Durant.

Griffin may have interest in playing for his hometown team and would have another dynamic point guard to play with in Russell Westbrook for at least a year. Should Westbrook leave Oklahoma City, then Griffin becomes the star player for the Thunder and general manager Sam Presti can now build around one superstar instead of having to juggle with two or three like he had to in the past with Durant, Westbrook, and James Harden.

Durant would thrive playing for Doc Rivers at the three. The Clippers would have to address the power forward position, but having Chris Paul, J.J. Redick, Durant, and DeAndre Jordan in the starting lineup would scare most teams in the NBA.

From his time in Los Angeles, Griffin has shown that he can play well alongside other big men, so he wouldn’t have an issue playing with players like Serge Ibaka, Steven Adams, or Enes Kanter with the Thunder. Griffin would flex at either the four or the five and help give Thunder head coach Billy Donovan a defensive tenacity that has never existed in Oklahoma City.

In Oklahoma City, Griffin could serve as a perfect pick-and-roll player for Westbrook, as he doesn’t have to be as ball dominant as Durant does to be effective. Oklahoma City may end up having more balance in Griffin is traded to his hometown Thunder in a deal for Durant straight up.

Griffin may not want to leave Los Angeles, but it would be hard to pass up playing with Westbrook in his hometown. He, Westbrook, and Ibaka could win an NBA Championship in the next three years for the Thunder as a new Big Three in Oklahoma City.
