Joe Johnson put the Nuggets away with a buzzer-beating three for the Nets veteran

With the Brooklyn Nets roster in dire straits from the onset of the 2015-16 season, they really needed veteran wing Joe Johnson to step up and carry the team with his offense on the perimeter. However, the 34-year-old guard has shown his age for much of the year and largely contributed to the struggles of the Nets. That was far from the case at the end of Brooklyn’s matchup with the Denver Nuggets on Monday night, though.

With the Nuggets up by two with just second left on the clock, Johnson got the ball off of a side-inbounds play at the top of the key. He took a quick gather dribble to his left and hoisted up a quick-release jumper. That shot banked off the glass and through the net as time expired to give the Nets the one-point victory:

That’s really the type of play that Brooklyn has needed from Johnson all season for them to be competitive. The fact that he hasn’t been doing things like this is probably why they’re one of the worst teams in the league on the year.

That being said, Johnson’s contract expires at the end of this season, which means the next week or so leading up to the NBA Trade Deadline could be hectic for him. If a team is willing to take on a big cap figure to clear up room for this summer, the Nets very well might be willing to move the veteran.
