4. Randy Carlyle

If the Wild want to hire someone who has a lot of NHL experience (something that Mike Yeo did not have when they hired him), Randy Carlyle could be a solid option for them. Carlyle most recently coached the Toronto Maple Leafs and was fired during the 2014-2015 season. He has been known to be a bit stubborn in his ways, but not as stubborn as Yeo. Carlyle could light a fire under the Wild’s players butts and possibly lead them to the postseason.

Carlyle won the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks back in 2007 with a roster not too different from the one that Montreal currently has. The Wild have skilled forwards Zach Parise, Tomas Vanek, Jason Pominville, and Nino Niederreiter. Teemu Selanne played an important role for Carlyle’s Ducks. Neither of them are worth comparing to Selanne, but they are skilled nonetheless. Anaheim was led by blue liner Chris Pronger and a great group of defensemen. Minnesota’s greatest strength might be their blue line with Ryan Suter.

Hiring Carlyle would be a risky move by the Wild for sure. However, at some point, the Wild need to be risky or they risk going all-in by signing Parise and Suter to long-term deals and leaving with nothing to show for it.
