The Los Angeles Clippers passed on a trade that would have landed them Channing Frye.

The NBA trade deadline has now passed, and while it wasn’t mad frenzy we’re used to seeing, it was still interesting.

Among the things that are kicking around upstairs as we assess what happened are the deals that didn’t happen. One such deal involved Channing Frye moving from Orlando to Los Angeles in a deal between the Magic and Clippers. While it’s not specified whether or not a deal was actually on the table, the Clippers apparently passed on the chance to trade with the Magic to instead pool their assets in a deal with the Grizzlies.

According to Ramona Shelburne from ESPN, the Clippers passed on a deal that would have landed them Channing Frye since they liked theJeff Green deal better.

It makes you wonder what a Channing Frye deal would have looked like given what we know about the Grizzlies trade. In that move, the Clippers moved a protected first-round pick to Memphis as a sweetener for taking on Stephenson. It’s probable that the Magic would have asked for the exact same, but we don’t know that for sure.

What we do know is that the Clippers see Jeff Green as a higher value return for a first-round pick than they did Frye. In the end, Frye was moved to Cleveland in a a three-team deal that might end up being more fruitful for the player than had he been dealt to Los Angeles.
