A Europa League clash of the titans. Both Sporting CP and Bayer Leverkusen will have high hopes from the competition. Here is where to watch.

Sporting CP are perennial Primeira Liga contenders, as is evident in the fact that they are top spot in Portugal as is. Yet they missed out on their traditional Champions League spot, finishing behind both of their two major rivals, Benfica and Porto, in last season’s campaign.

After watching their beloved rivals Benfica pull out the late winner against their Russian adversary, Sporting CP will be hoping for a smoother go. That all starts with the trifecta up front: Bryan Ruiz, Fredy Montero and Matheus Pereira. These three have been driving Sporting in their domestic and Europa League pursuits.

However, while they may be hoping for a smooth sailing first leg, it will not be easy, as not winning their group cost them dearly in the draw

Bayer Leverkusen have to be seen as one of the favorites in the Europa League. Drawn into the toughest Champions League group, the German outfit lost out to Roma on the head-to-head rule, despite having a better goal differential. That is a bitter way to depart and you can bet they are going to have pent up frustrations.

Given the exploits of Javier Hernandez, they have just the guy to unleash them. Hernandez nabbed five goals in six Champions League matches and augmented it with 13 goals in 15 matches in the Bundesliga. Good luck stopping that. Elsewhere, they have the ever-prolific young German keeper Bernd Leno and the midfield master Lars Bender.

There may yet be 32 teams in the Europa League, but these two are two of the strongest.
