The 2016 Daytona 500 will kick off the season on Sunday. How long is the track at Daytona International Speedway?

The official start to the NASCAR Sprint Cup season begins on Sunday, with the 2016 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. The race is considered one of the most sacred events in sports and winning the race will etch a driver’s name into the history books.

The track is one of the hardest to win and usually takes a race veteran to succeed, but there has been some historical upsets in the history of the race. What is ahead of older and younger drivers is a superspeedway, which is home to some of the biggest wrecks in history and some of the highest speeds.

Daytona International Speedway is 2.5-miles and it is classified as a superspeedway, because it is larger than two miles. With such a large track, comes the chance for three-wide racing and in some events, four-wide racing.

There’s nothing more exciting in NASCAR, than superspeedway racing. The excitement of three-wide racing and the potential for the unknown is what makes the race intriguing and the Daytona 500 lives up to the hype every year because of it.

The tracks of NASCAR vary in length, but the big one begins the season every year and memories are always created as a result. Even the best drivers have fallen victim to the obstacles of the track and on Sunday, the 500-mile race will welcome a new member to history.
