Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies quietly did some really nice things before the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline. When you look at their overall haul of five draft picks, P.J. Hairston, and Chris Andersen, it might seem like a strange thing to say that they did well, but when you start to break things down with how they got to that point, it’s hard to deny that the Grizzlies really made the most with what they had to work with.

Memphis was part of the first trade of the season when they went out and got Mario Chalmers and James Ennis from the Miami Heat for Beno Udrih and Jarnell Stokes. However, the Grizzlies started off the run up to the deadline on Tuesday when they dealt Courtney Lee to the Hornets in a three-team trade. As a result of that trade, they picked up a prospect in Hairston, a veteran center in Andersen and four (yes, four) second round picks. Then, right before 3 p.m. on Thursday, the Grizz were able to turn Jeff Green into a Lance Stephenson and a first round pick.

Even if you aren’t a fan of Stephenson, he’s a comparable player to Green and Memphis got a first-rounder out of it. When you look at the haul that they got considering where they started, they are basically the same going forward this season and better set up for the future to boot.
