Let’s face it, the Cleveland Browns need a bit of everything.

The Cleveland Browns had a dismal 2015 season, finishing dead last in the AFC North and winning only three games the entire season. Their poor performance has earned them the second overall draft pick, which is probably of little consolation since the Browns have proven terrible at the draft. They would have more success if they picked names out of a hat, or entrust the decision to the puppies from this year’s Puppy Bowl.

The Browns urgently need new pieces on the roster, but for now they have a new coach in Hue Jackson, the former offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals. He could breathe new life into the team, but only if the team addresses glaring needs at quarterback, pass rusher, and edge rusher.

Quarterback Johnny Manziel is facing allegations of domestic violence to go along with his excessive partying and irresponsible alcohol consumption. The quarterback position is a must-fill. Likewise, Browns attempted to address wide receiver before the 2015 season by acquiring Dwayne Bowe in March 2015 for $13 million and $9 guaranteed. He was a non-contributor to the squad, playing in only seven games and tallying a paltry five catches. Josh Gordon, who is perpetually suspended for drug-related infractions, has tremendous talent, but is not reliable – you can’t score points if you are suspended. Travis Benjamin could very well be lost to free agency. Twelve other players hit the market this offseason including linebacker Craig Robertson, safety Tashaun Gipson, and right tackle Mitchell Schwartz.

The team has plans to rebuild wisely this year. Owner Jimmy Haslam reassured the world, “We are not going to spend a gazillion dollars in free agency. We are going to build through the draft because we are firmly convinced it is the right way to do it.” While they might not spend a gazillion dollars in free agency, they might consider spending a few million. After all, they do have $35 million in cap space, a generous budget.

Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery would be a big upgrade, that is if the team can also find a quarterback who can make Jeffery shine (and score points.) Marvin Jones is another possibility at receiver. Another high-profile player that could help the Browns team immediately is outside linebacker Danny Travathan, who had an impressive 110 tackles and four games with multiple sacks. Broncos backup quarterback, and newly minted Super Bowl Champion, Brock Osweiler could be of interest to the Browns as well.
