Offensive tackle Anthony Davis will reportedly apply for reinstatement and wants to play in the NFL in 2016

Last offseason, the San Francisco 49ers lost offensive lineman Anthony Davis when the tackle abruptly retired from the NFL last June. At the time, Davis said that he wanted to take some time off to let his body heal from injuries and that he would return. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Davis could return as soon as 2016.

Davis is an excellent tackle who should help the 49ers. He is still under contract until 2019. Should he return to the 49ers, he would certainly help them upgrade at right tackle. The 49ers could use every upgrade that they can get at this point after finishing in last place in the NFC West with a 5-11-0 record in 2015.

Anthony Davis is a five year veteran of the NFL. After starting every game in his first four seasons with the 49ers, concussion issues and other injuries limited him to just seven games in 2014. Those injuries significantly limited his effectiveness and took a toll on his body. Davis was a part of the offensive line that helped lead the 49ers to Super Bowl 47 where the 49ers lost to the Ravens 34-31.
