The Anaheim Ducks have traded for Buffalo Sabres forward Jamie McGinn

The Anaheim Ducks were looking to upgrade their scoring depth even after acquiring forward Brandon Pirri from the Florida Panthers. As the deadline neared, they barely got a deal done with the Buffalo Sabres for forward Jamie McGinn.

Anaheim will send Buffalo a conditional draft pick in exchange for McGinn, who will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

From NHL.com:

"McGinn, 27 (8/5/88), scored 14 goals along with 27 points (14-13=27) and 10 penalty minutes (PIM) in 63 games with Buffalo this season. The 6-1, 205-pound winger co-led the Sabres in game-winning goals (3), ranked tied for second in power-play goals (6), fourth in power-play points (6-3=9) and shooting percentage (12.8%), and tied for fourth in assists."

The Ducks pay a relatively nice price for McGinn. Jamie McGinn is a proven forward who can fill in wherever needed in the lineup and consistently provide scoring as long as he can stay healthy. He has 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points this season in 63 games. Expect him to join the Ducks third forward line as they try to infuse their lineup with scoring depth.

Buffalo did quite well here, as they wanted a second round pick for him. The condition for the pick involves the Ducks success in the playoffs. On paper, Buffalo’s chances of it increasing to a second round pick are good. A third rounder is certainly nothing to sneeze at either.
