Peyton Maning Fantasy Football Update

There are beginning to be a lot of rumblings from around the league that Peyton Manning wants to give it another go next season. Manning is coming off of an up and down season, but yet it was still a Super Bowl winning season. There is a ton of debate about where he will land. Adam Schefter reports in the video linked above that he does not know if there will be a fit for Manning. Ross Tucker reports that he believes that Manning will be the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams.

Peyton Manning should be able to play if he wants to. He has earned that kind of leeway with the NFL, yet if he wants to play he might have to be willing to play for a reduced one year salary as there are likely tons of questions as to whether his physical body can hold up to the pain and whatnot that another NFL season will inflict upon his body.

If you own Manning in a dynasty or a keeper league you may want to give some pause as to what you will do with him. Basically I would only hold onto him in a larger dynasty league and I would not want to be in a place where I am relying on Manning as my starting quarterback. A lot of the leagues that I play in are 12 teams with four keepers. In a league that size I am not even considering keeping Manning.

Dependent on where Manning signs I am probably not considering drafting him until the late rounds of a typical fantasy draft. In almost every case I would rather draft a younger guy with upside than an older guy who has shown a declining skill-set for that past few seasons.

One of the places that I would like to see Manning would be with the Cleveland Browns and with a healthy Josh Gordon. I realize they would have some work to do, but I would like to see Gordon with someone who could get the rock to him.

Adam Schefter seems t rule out the Houston Texans in the above linked video, but I would also think that he could be in a good position there as well. My overall hope for Manning would be for him to just retire and go out on top. I realize how hard it is for these super-competitive guys to let go and hang up the cleats for that final time, but I think that could be the best option for all parties.
