The Baltimore Ravens and quarterback Joe Flacco have agreed to a three-year contract extension.

The Ravens are getting some much-needed cap relief on Wednesday, with word coming down that the team and quarterback Joe Flacco have come together on a three-year contract extension. The deal will still pay Flacco a huge salary, but his cap hits over the next few seasons will decrease, per multiple reports.

Flacco was signed to a mega six-year deal right after the Ravens won the Super Bowl in Feb. 2013. Since then, Baltimore has been back to the playoffs only once and Flacco has been middling, throwing 60 touchdowns against 46 interceptions. The former University of Delaware star is also coming off a torn ACL that cost him the final six weeks of last season.

Flacco’s cap hits were going to be $28.5 this season before jumping to $31.1 million in 2017. Now, the Ravens will have the 31-year-old through his 36th birthday, almost ensuring he will be in Baltimore for the entirety of his career.

The Ravens are hoping to add some core pieces around him this offseason, but must do it through the draft. Currently, general manager Ozzie Newsome has $2.9 million in cap space (before the extension) but does hold the sixth pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
